The dear, near and not so near people living with me know or at least are aware of a fun game I play. It is called D.O.T.A (Defense Of The Ancients), an extended version of Warcraft 3 You do not need much to play this game, the only things you need are a computer, common sense, a bloodthirsty nature, dedication and time (unless you use cheats:P). At first I avoided the game like the plague because of how zombie like my best friend and brother became while playing the game, personally I did not like the idea of spending an hour or so on the game but after I quit my job and basically had NOTHING to do, I decided to give the game a shot with cheats though. After MUCH persuasion I finally relented and agreed to play the game without cheats and thus started my path to domination in the A.I(Artificial Intelligence) world.
Now to break down the game for those who have no idea of what I am talking about. If you have ever played Warcraft or Age of Empires, you know that you are supposed to build your own empire and then destroy the enemy/enemies. In D.O.T.A you control one character and are allotted a specific area which you must protect, this area has the main tower (throne) which is connected to 3 lanes that have 3 towers each. The lanes connect to your enemy territory so through common sense we can deduce that we need to destroy the enemy towers to reach the throne which ultimately ends the game. The first person to destroy the others throne wins. The tower is capable of damage too so to help you destroy towers, you have minions which involve melee, ranged people and one ranged machine. You can upgrade your inventory thus making you really strong (correct equipment) or seriously dysfunctional (Wrong equipment for your character).
The characters come from the original game, some had major roles while others did not . But all the characters have 3 skills (special powers) and 1 ultimate power which help your character win, the better your equipment the more powerful your character. The impact of your skills depend on levels, the more you kill and not be killed, the faster you level up (The max is 25). Now this game can be the most fun, intense, brain boggling or plain frustrating. You earn gold by killing minions, random creatures(neutral creeps) and your opponents. A total of 10 people can play the game and it has bots (in simple words bots means that the opponent is “computer”) so it can either be a team game or one on x players.
So my post for today is about what would happen if people in my life including me were turned into D.O.T.A characters and if we did what our powers would be. Me and my best friend rattled our brains real hard and based on our individual characteristics we gave ourselves skills and an ultimate power. I will not name the original people involved in this project as indirect repercussions are far worse than the direct ones. And as I started writing this post, I realized how big this post was going to be so I will be writing it in the form of series, one post per character.
Even though it is a team game, there are only two sides (Sentinel & Scourge), a mini map version of how the game’s map is
The red and green represent the two sides, the big squares are the towers while the house in each side is the home base where you can regenerate your health and buy equipment. The tiny squares denote your character, neutral creeps and minions. I guess this is all you need to know about how D.O.T.A works..
